Honkai: Star Rail – Mastering Team Building to Avoid Detours

Mastering Team Building to Avoid Detours / Character Development and Team Comps Suggestion

Many new Trailblazers in Star Rail often develop the misconception that they only need to use 4 random characters to easily overcome most of the game’s stages and challenges. They underestimate the importance of team comps and character development.

If this misconception is not corrected in time, it can lead to wasting a significant amount of resources on improperly developed characters and hinder the ability to form effective teams, ultimately affecting the overall gaming experience. Therefore, here are some tips and suggestions regarding character development and team comps to help players below level 60.

Resource Acquisition Planning

In the Star Rail, all resources required for character development, including Relics, EXP, and materials, rely on Trailblaze Power. As a result, Trailblazers must make efficient use of their limited Trailblaze Power to maximize the overall strength of their team. The following chart provides resource acquisition advice for different level ranges:

Before reaching Trailblaze Level 49, it is recommended to prioritize the Cavern of Corrosion to quickly replace low-quality Relics in the team and prepare for building the second team for conquering the Forgotten Hall. Before reaching Trailblaze Level 59, it is advisable to focus on the highest difficulty of Calyx (Golden): Bud of Memories. Once the character level cap reaches 80. After reaching Trailblaze Level 60, it is suggested to focus on the highest difficulty of Calyx (Crimson). The drop rate of high-level materials significantly increases at this stage, making it the most efficient time to enhance character Trace.

Character Developing Suggestions

After acquiring sufficient resources, we must consider which characters are our top priorities for developing.

First, main DPS is crucial for the team’s overall performance. Only a few 5-star characters are capable of fulfilling this role. The top choices are naturally Seele and Jing Yuan, both of which were exclusive to version 1.0. These two characters possess exceptional skill mechanics and can deliver more substantial damage compared to characters with similar stats. If you missed out on them, it is recommended to prioritize training the more easily obtainable Himeko, Welt, and Yanqing, which are also excellent alternatives.

As for characters following other types, there are additional choices and considerations. For example, the Harmony can provide significant buffs to our team, while the Nihility can inflict multiple negative effects on the enemy. It is advisable to prioritize their development alongside the main DPS. Currently, the only 5-star characters who walk these types worth training are Bronya and Silver Wolf, although they are equally difficult to obtain. For players who do not have these characters, 4-Star alternatives like Asta, Tingyun, and Pela can achieve good results at higher levels.

On the other hand, characters following the Abundance or the Abundance can greatly enhance the team’s survival ability, making them crucial in the Forgotten Hall. Gepard, Bailu, and the upcoming Luocha, each possess the ability to protect the entire team single-handedly. After unlocking Stage 11 of the Forgotten Hall Memory, it is highly recommended to obtain one of these three characters. If there are no plans to tackle high-difficulty levels, temporary alternatives like Natasha and Trailblazer (Preservation) can still handle most battles.

Basic Team Comps

Lastly, let’s talk about how to build a team that combines both damage output and survivability, while also adapting to the environment. The fundamental combination starts with a core main DPS, complemented by either a Nihility or Harmony character as support, and either an Abundance or Preservation character to ensure survival. The final slot can be flexible. If the team lacks a weakness element that matches elite enemies, characters like Dan Heng, March 7th, or Asta, who are easy to develop and have high break efficiency, can be included to ensure their survival.

Using this approach, we can further refine the effects of different characters and enhance the overall strength of the team. For example, Asta’s Trace and Light Cone both increase the damage of Fire characters. Pairing her with Himeko allows for an unconditional 42% damage boost. Yan Qing, when taking damage, removes his own buffs. Combining him with Gepard who can taunt and provide shields effectively compensates for Yan Qing’s weakness.

For players who have Silver Wolf, there are even more flexible team comp options. Seele, Silver Wolf, Bailu, and Tingyun can form a team with Dual Lightning and Quantum elements. The same applies if Seele is replaced with Jing Yuan. By utilizing Silver Wolf’s unique weakness implantation mechanic and break efficiency bonus, these teams can actually achieve better results when facing enemies without corresponding weaknesses.

Conclusion

That’s all about the advice on character development and team comps. Currently, there are only a few obtainable characters in Star Rail, but as the game continues to update, there will undoubtedly be more challenges that test team comp strategies and approaches. I hope the above content can serve as a starting point and provide more assistance to everyone in their future game planning.
