Deep Rock Galactic – How to Deal More Damage

Tips to Deal More Damage

Damage will go up once you start getting OCs (OverClocks). Before then, you aren’t going to see any of the silly damage numbers you can occasionally see with certain builds.

Before then though, a few tips:

  • Aim for weak points (the face for some enemies, the glowing bit for others). Depending on the enemy, they can increase damage by up to x3. And if your weapon has a weak point damage increase, it can go even higher.
  • If you can’t go for a weak point, at least go for an unarmoured bit. Even with armour breaking increases, shooting armour will reduce the damage you do and make you take longer to kill something. Also, almost no enemies in the game have their weak points hidden under armour.
  • If you feel you aren’t killing fast enough, try rate of fire or damage upgrade over ammo. It will decrease your overall damage you can do per resupply, but let you kill faster. DRG’s upgrades are all about trade offs, including most OCs. Experiment to see what works for you.
  • Area damage and blowthrough rounds matter. If you are hitting multiple targets at once, you are dealing more damage, and faster. Not to say they are mandatory, far from it, but you will always want at least one way to kill multiple things at a time. Every class does have a grenade, don’t forget to use it.
  • Accuracy matters. Every missed shot is a reduction in both your total damage and DPS. Taking accuracy upgrades or getting closer to your target can both help.

Also, slightly related, give every class a try. Unlike other games, every class is a damage dealer. Gunner is overall solid, Scout can have some huge single target damage, Engineer has weak primaries but super strong secondaries (and also has turrets), and Driller has easy access to elemental effects and crowd control.
