Here you can find few tips that might help you o design your own DDs.
Tips to Design DDs
How Do I Design My DDs?
The first weapon on the ship is a torpedo launcher that can fire in at least a 180° arc. The second weapon on the ship is a torpedo launcher (usually in a cut recess so it cannot fire forward). The third weapon system is the main gun on a barbette so it can fire in at least a 180° forward arc.
What does this allow you to do? You can make a 39.5 knott destroyer that can plot a perpendicular course to an enemy BB. To paint the picture : the enemy BB is sailing east and you are sailing north on a direct intercept course.
You have your DD fire the first set of torpedoes within 5km (use fast speed always). The BB will likely turn. After this happens turn the torpedoes off (manually). Sail up to the side of the BB and turn the torpedoes on again. Now that second set of torpedoes can be fired after it aims at the BB.
One gripe a lot of people have about this game is that the AI is a wizard at using and dodging torpedoes.
Until about 1935 you can use the “point blank” method I have described above.
After that you need to use the “X” method. Think of the enemy ship as a dot in the middle of an X.
If you have 2 ships then have them be at any two adjacent end points of the X and have them enable their torpedoes at the same time.
- If you have 2 ships then have them be at any two adjacent end points of the X and have them enable their torpedoes at the same time.
- If you have 3 ships then have them be at any two adjacent end points of the X as well as the space between those end points and have them enable their torpedoes at the same time.
