Not sure if this helps anybody, but here (on a 3440×1440 monitor) I was able to get COCOON running in ultra-wide without any HEX editing or external applications, and it could work for other resolutions as well.
Guide to Fix Ultrawide
If you get the game to run in borderless fullscreen, which the title seems to default to, the command arguments
-screen-width 3440 -screen-height 1440
Will render the game with Hor+ visuals in the 3D space, but cut off the bottom in the HUD elements. To do this, you right-click COCOON in your Steam Library, go to “properties”, and paste the launch option I put in quotes with whatever resolution you’re using. I also tried 1920×1440 (4:3) and the resulting image was perfect for my CRT display. The most extreme resolution I tested was 3840×720 (’16:3′) and while I did notice some culling, plus the “Continue” text in the menu didn’t even show up, the game rendered just fine. I’ll try the HEX edit as well, but I did want to share that with my sub-hour with the game, this method worked just fine.
P.S. Also try
-window-mode borderless
In the launch options if the game is using Exclusive Fullscreen for some reason.
