Tips to Make Hard Shelter for Animals
Anything can be shelter. Yes, caves in the terrain can be really interesting shelters. Just let your imagination run free and try different things. Using the terrain stamp tool can really help with those caves. Consider the round one to cut out the shape and the cube one to finish off the floor.
Start by making a basic hut that would fit an animal like a wildebeest. Then look at the heatmap that shows where the animal can move around. This will quickly show you that animals take up way more space than they look like they need. You’ll see that small enclosures just aren’t worth building, and that square-shaped areas work much better than long, narrow ones. You’ll also notice animals need buildings with good height – which explains why the basic shelters included in the game aren’t very useful anymore. Once you see all this, you’ll be able to make better habitats that actually work for your animals.
Once you’ve understood how much space a wall takes away you can then start building caves and houses more easily. For the caves, build a house to get the size large enough, then put rocks around it, then remove the house.
