For PC peeps, there’s a mod that increases scanner range, but it’s not needed. Drop your console and do this:
SetGS fHandScannerMapMarkerMinRange 3000I don’t use this setting on proper planets, but the barren moons kind of need it to avoid aimless 2KM runs.
All this does is expose POIs at distance so that you can do a quick scan of each POI type.
