Kingdom Two Crowns – Most Economic Usage of Gems Guide

How to Use Gemstones Cost-Effectively

By Captain Zelnik.

The Devs have spoken, there will not be enough gems for you to unlock everything in a single run, making 100% runs impossible. This is a bad choice, as this sort of game lends well to the completionist…but I suppose we have to pound sand.

Instead, I am making this handy guide to help determine where gems should be spent for the most effective and efficient usage, including the benefits of new content and necessity of the missions.

Statues

Farm-1 Gem: Extremely important.

This is the major economy statue and blessed be, it’s cheap. A single gem for better crop output. Grab it, it’s worth it.

Wall-3 Gem: Important

While you can manage with weaker walls and slower building, it really helps when your days start to climb. Protecting your home regularly means keeping the walls in one piece.

Combat-related walls (Hoplite/Knight/Slinger)-3 Gem: Less Important

These ARE handy, don’t get me wrong! They make your soldiers better but there are so many ways to supplement your troops with buffs that getting all of them isn’t necessary for the run. I personally went with Knight and Hoplite. Something to consider (no matter how grim) is that the people of your town are broadly speaking a renewable resource.

Hermits

Stable Hermit-1 Gem: “Less” important.

The stable hermit is cheap, and is MASSIVELY convenient if you are looking to really explore the different mounts. If you are looking for a mount completionist run, it’s a must have simply so you can look at your pokemon with glee. If you are happy with one mount alone, this is entirely unnecessary.

Fire Tower Hermit: 3 Gems: Useless. Catapults do the job.

Wine/Bread Hermit-4 Gems: Less Important.

Useful in some circumstances, absolutely useless in most others. If you have a catastrophic disaster and lose several armies, it’s handy for the vagrants to migrate towards your town. Otherwise, you have such a good economy that you can just buy more citizens from estates. It’s a ‘one less thing to do’ building.

Mounts

  • Stag-1 Gem: Essential. You have no choice but to get the stag as part of a quest, so you might as well get it weather you like it or not.
  • Draft Horse-1 Gem: Uselss. The Draft horse is nice and fluffy but doesn’t really do anything a normal horse doesn’t do. Considering how many other options there are, the draft horse is, regretablly, not worth your time or 1 gem.
  • Donkey-2 Gems: Situational at best, useless at worst. The Donkey is a neat addition, and it’s power is pretty interesting. You can use the bread it drops to recruit vagrants. If you have the bread/wine hermit, or just oodles of money, this is pretty useless. Oh, the greed can take the bread too. Skip it unless you are a Pokemon Master
  • Griffin-3 Gems: Somewhat Useful. The Griffin is the first mount with a clearly ‘useful’ power, but has not changed since two crowns. If you don’t want to waste your gems on old news, skip the griffin.
  • Bear-3 Gems: Effectively useless. The Bear is always nice, because I love bears. However, it’s completely overshadowed by other offensive or buff mounts. It’s no different than it’s prior iterations, another scab from prior content.
  • Large Dog (A.K.A. Best Boy)-3 Gems: Excellent. A fantastic buffer mount, and he is a good boy. Good boys get pets. Unique mechanics and effects, and a great new mount.
  • Cerberus (A.K.A Bestest Boy)-0 Gems: Most reliable mount. I added him here because Spot is nice enough to not need gems to be awesome.
  • Pegasus (A.K.A. Bestest horse)-0 Gems: Most useful mount. See above.
  • Chimera-3 Gems: Useful but risky. Cerberus has a great fire dash that does damage and sets enemies on fire. Good for collecting money from wild animals too, but poor stamina. You can and will dive deep into enemy lines and die several times before you get it right.
  • Spider(LEG DAY)-3 Gems: VERY useful. While the ability is technically defensive, slowing down the incoming greed can be insanely useful. Three webs at a time can slow the invasion to a crawl.
  • Day/Night Chariot(A.K.A. Insomnia)-3 Gems: Briefly useful. What you get out of this is speed during certain parts of the day. Handy until you get pegasus. After that, it’s useless.
  • Hippocampus-3 Gems: Very useful for consistant movement. Almost never gets tired, faster than any mount when ramped up. Recovers almost instantly.

Overall, if you end up skipping the Griffin, Bear, Draft horse, fire hermit, you should have enough for everything else.
